Abstract: Although the history of Azerbaijan carpet weaving is considered about thousands of years, until the end of the XIX century, its history was almost never been the object of systematic scientific research either on the scale of the entire country or individual regions. As the demand for Azerbaijan carpet has increased in the end of XIX and the beginning of XX centuryin world market, tsarist Russia had to pay attention to this field and made the Caucasian Cottage Crafts Committee in 1899, thats main purpose was to study the position of the art of carpet weaving. In the first years of its activity, the Committee, working with a very small budget, conducted research in 195 villages engaged in carpet weaving in 11 regions of the South Caucasus for several years, has gathered valuable information about the raw material base, distribution area, workforce, painting, features of the using tools, range of carpet products, selling price and many other issues.
